Hemangioma and Red Spot Removal

Performed at our Duluth, GA medical office, north of Atlanta.

Red spots also known as hemangioma’s or vascular lesions are genetic and harmless.  These benign tumors are incredibly common in infants, appearing anywhere from their first days or weeks of life and may last until the child turns 10.  The hemangioma will appear differently based on where it is located – above the skin’s surface it will look bright red, almost like a strawberry.  If it is located beneath the skin, it will look like a bluish swell.

While these tumors will disappear on their own and will never present in an adult, they can be embarrassing for a child if they persist into their early years.  Since one of the most common occurrence sites is the neck, it is difficult to hide for children less confident in their appearance.

Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center in Atlanta, Georgia offers red spot removal on the face and body.  Red spots can usually be removed in one treatment and has no down time; occasionally two treatments are necessary to remove larger vascular lesions.

Frequently Asked Questions about Laser Hemangioma and Red Spot Treatment

Is there anything I can do to prevent bright red spots from forming on my skin?
Generally, no, angiomas are not preventable—they’re typically a genetic trait, and they often increase in size as you get older. However, the laser treatments to remove them are rather quick and easy, so they aren’t a problem you’ll need to deal with for very long.

Will laser red spot removal harm my surrounding skin?
When you’re in the hands of a licensed and experienced professional (like our medical staff at Laser Lights), side effects are rare. The laser is actually customized to be drawn to the red in the blood vessels, so it focuses its energy on the unwanted blood vessels, not on your skin.

Will my red spots return after laser treatment?
Once your body has removed the abnormal blood vessels that formed your red spot or hemangioma, they’re gone for good. But If you’re prone to these types of vascular lesions, new ones may form nearby, so you may want to return to treat any new angiomas that may appear.
