Birthmarks are blemishes on the skin that actually form before an infant is even born! While that sounds amazing in its own way, the fact remains that birthmarks are generally unwanted and undesirable. While the true nature of birthmarks is unknown, it is believed they form due to an overgrowth of blood vessels under the skin. These can make children and adults alike feel self-conscious about how they look and depending on the placement of the birthmark, may find it difficult to hide.
There are many types of birthmarks: some appear brown and do not fade with age (cafe au lait spots), some even darker with a bumpy texture (congenital melanocytic nevus), others will seem blue (Mongolian blue spot), while others like port wine stains and hemangiomas will vary on placement. All are benign and all can be removed at Laser Lights!
Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center in Duluth, just north of Atlanta, Georgia, can remove birthmarks. Our FDA approved, advanced cosmetic laser technology is safe for all skin types. The number of treatments vary based on the size and depth of the birthmark, but it usually takes a minimum of three treatments for total removal.

Are different types of birthmarks treated differently?
Yes. There are two basic categories of birthmarks: pigmented (caused by excess pigment in the skin) and vascular (caused by abnormal growths of blood vessels). Pigmented birthmarks are minimized when we use a laser to break down the pigment particles, allowing the body to absorb and eliminate them. For vascular birthmarks, the laser targets and shuts down the blood vessels beneath the skin. After the treatment, these blood vessels will be slowly removed by the body’s natural healing process.
How many laser birthmark removal treatments will I need?
Your laser treatments depend on a number of factors, including the size, type, and location of your birthmark. Schedule a consultation and skin analysis at Laser Lights with a member of our skilled medical staff to discuss the treatment plan which will best meet your needs.
On what areas of my body can I have laser birthmark removal?
While we will need to evaluate your skin and your birthmark to ensure that you are a candidate for the treatment, for the most part, laser birthmark removal can be used for nearly any area of the face and body.
