However, this doesn’t mean that everyone who commits to permanent ink is satisfied with it. It’s also incredibly common for people to grow discontented over time. There’s no shame in going back on your decision because Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center offers advanced tattoo removal technology that can significantly fade the appearance of tattoos.

With a lot of online chatter about tattoo removal, it can seem overwhelming to do research in order to find accurate information. That’s why our professional laser technicians at Laser Lights are answering frequently asked questions about the subject—so you can gain a clear understanding of the ins and outs of this procedure.

Q: My tattoo doesn’t look as good as it did years ago. Why does tattoo ink change over time?

A: Even though tattooing might feel like a standardized process, there’s no telling how your body will react to it. Factors such as placement on the body, ink quality, ink color, your body’s healing process and sun exposure can all affect how it looks on your skin.

When you’re being tattooed, ink is deposited beneath the epidermis layer in your skin. Even though the results are long-lasting, the color and shape isn’t fully permanent due to the body’s immune system response. The ink will be naturally absorbed by the body, causing the image to fade over time.

Q: Is it possible to fade or remove a multi-colored tattoo?

A: This is a very common question because many tattoos incorporate colors other than standard black ink. Each ink color requires a different type of laser and a certain number of treatment sessions to successfully fade. To answer your question, yes, it is possible fade multi-colored tattoos. Q: How many sessions are typically required?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to the question. Our laser technicians are skilled at accomplishing tattoo removal in the fewest sessions possible, but each case depends on a multitude of factors. Some of these variables include how long ago an individual received their tattoo in addition to the amount, type, color, and depth of the tattoo ink. Therefore, the most accurate way of determining how many treatment sessions you’ll need is by scheduling a cosmetic laser consultation at Laser Lights. Keep in mind, however, that each patient’s body responds to the treatments differently. While we can estimate, no one will be able to tell you how many sessions you’ll need with full certainty.

The skilled laser technicians can remove sun damage or brown spots with laser specific to your needs. Photofacial uses Intense Pulse Laser (IPL) to target deeper areas of concern. Typically one photofacial treatment can remove 80% of sun damage. In addition to treating skin conditions on the face, photofacial treatments can also treat various areas of the body including the chest, arms, and hands.

Patients benefit from this treatment and there are minimal side effects and virtually no downtime. Each treatment lasts between fifteen to twenty minutes and is a great option for patients looking for a quick, effective treatment option. If a patient was to treat melasma triggered by hormonal changes a combination of treatment methods may be recommended. As with all laser treatments, it’s important to wear a broad-spectrum SPF and avoid direct sun exposure after each procedure.

Summer Skin Care

Although laser skin treatments can erase imperfections and produce healthy, beautiful skin, being exposed to the sun’s rays after laser treatment can cause unsightly hyperpigmentation. It’s important to employ proper laser after care; especially during the summer months. If you choose to have a laser procedure during the summer you should wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and a zinc oxide base. You should follow these guidelines not only after laser treatment, but four to six weeks before and between laser treatments. If you anticipate spending a lot of time in the sun this summer, you may want to reserve laser procedures for the winter months and try one of our other non-laser procedures in the mean time.

One of our newest summer treatments is eyelash and eyebrow tinting. Great for patients with blonde or light colored hair, this treatment adds darker pigment to the eyelashes and brows for up to two or three months. That’s basically a whole summer free from applying mascara, eyelash extensions, or brow pencil. Plus, brow and lash tinting is easily combined with other Laser Lights’ treatments. Some patients, however, do not have thick or long enough eyelashes to benefit from tinting. These patients are better suited for Latisse® eyelash treatment, which helps eyelashes grow thicker, longer, and even darker.

Chemical peels, facials and microdermabrasion treatments are also great for the summer, but the 30 SPF sunscreen rule is still important with these treatments too. More
