laser skin treatments atlanta

There’s a reason why most make-up buffs have entire drawers of blushes, bronzers, and other cosmetics designed to give their faces the right blend of color; it’s because having a bit of rosiness in your cheeks gives you a healthy, cheerful look. Still, you can have too much of a good thing, and in this case, if you have excessive facial redness, you might have a condition called rosacea. Don’t worry, it’s not a health risk – it’s primarily cosmetic, and it’s also treatable. Here’s what you should know about rosacea, straight from our experienced and licensed aestheticians at Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center:

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic condition that causes the blood vessels in your face to dilate more frequently, persistently, or severely than normal. This causes the skin in areas of your face to look red or “flushed,” and it can also lead to visible spider veins on your face and, in some cases, red eye irritation and thickening skin on the nose. Rosacea often doesn’t develop until your 30s, and it’s most common among people with lighter skin, primarily women. It also tends to run in families. Researchers don’t yet know what causes the condition itself to develop, but patients typically have specific “triggers” that cause their symptoms to flare up. Everyone is unique, but common triggers include physical exertion, heat, alcohol, spicy foods, and sun exposure (though a rosacea flare-up is different from sunburn).

How is Rosacea Treated?

The most effective long-term treatment for rosacea is a series of laser treatments along with a little preventative maintenance. These procedures target the overactive blood vessels in your face, blocking them off so your body can naturally get rid of them. Don’t worry – this doesn’t harm your circulation. After a few treatments (the number will vary from one patient to the next), you may be able to enjoy several months relief from your symptoms before it’s time for a refresher.

While laser rosacea treatments are a great way to reduce your symptoms long-term, you can also help manage your rosacea on a daily basis by finding your specific triggers and avoiding them when possible. Start making a note of each time your symptoms flare up, what you’re doing at the time, where you are, what you’ve been eating, etc. This can help you pick up patterns and discover your unique triggers.
