Chemical Peels

Chemical peels have long been a staple of many patients’ beauty regimens. While all of our peels can address several cosmetic concerns at once, their focus and extensiveness depends on the individual peel. For example, the TCA Sensi Peel® is effective in minimizing signs of rosacea, while the salicylic peel focuses on treating acne and the medium-depth TCA peel primarily addresses fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, and other signs of aging. Réjuvapen® Micro Fractional Collagen Stimulation System

The procedure uses a technique called micro-needling to stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen—the protein that gives skin its firmness and elasticity. What issues does Réjuvapen® address?
One of the greatest advantages of Réjuvapen® is its versatility. As a face and neck treatment, the procedure gives the skin a younger, more radiant appearance by minimizing fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity, while also addressing other concerns like acne scars and large pores. As an added bonus, Réjuvapen® can also be used on other areas of the body, like the abdominal area, to reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

How does Réjuvapen® facial rejuvenation work?
Réjuvapen® uses a process called micro-needling. During the treatment, tiny needles are used to perforate the skin to a customized depth, depending on the patient’s needs. This stimulates the body to produce more collagen and elastin, which help the skin to become firmer, smoother, and more youthful.

To boost the effects of the micro-needling process, specific topical products are used during the Réjuvapen® facial rejuvenation treatment. In most patients, a specially-formulated peptide gel is applied to the treatment area to aid in improving the skin quality, but patients can instead opt to have a topical human growth factor applied, which goes even further by helping to repair the damage that sun exposure has done to the treated skin.

How Has Advancing Technology Improved Cosmetic Treatments?

There’s no doubt that we live in exciting times, when technology and medicine are advancing at alarming rates, and both fields have had a valuable impact on the world of cosmetic laser treatments. The first laser was built just 55 years ago, and already we have the power and precision to minimize individual freckles in a patient’s skin. As a member of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, our owner, Dr. David Whiteman, is dedicated to providing our patients with the highest standard of care. Below are a few of the more recent advancements that have made a powerful difference in our ability to give our patients safe and radiant results.

Shorter pulses of light for tattoo removal

At Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center, we’ve worked with many patients who, for one reason or another, are ready to get rid of a tattoo. Laser tattoo removal works by sending pulses of light into the skin. These pulses break up the ink into tiny pigment particles, which can then be naturally absorbed and eliminated by the body. Lasers have long been used for tattoo removal, but researchers are continuously improving the technology for more thorough results and a lower risk of side-effects with tactics like using shorter pulses of energy to break up the ink into smaller particles than we previously could.

Fractional lasers

Looking younger is one of the most common cosmetic goals, but traditional CO₂ laser skin resurfacing involved a significant amount of skin damage and often resulted in a “line of demarcation”—a clear line between treated and untreated skin. But thanks to recent research, fractional lasers were developed. In fractionated laser skin resurfacing, the lasers send tiny columns of light into the skin, stimulating collagen production while leaving much of the surface skin untouched. The result is a smoother, rejuvenated appearance with little or no downtime.

Non-surgical skin tightening

We all experience signs of aging as the years pass, but one symptom that can be especially difficult on a patient’s self-esteem is lax skin. As we age, our skin loses the firmness and elasticity of its youth and can develop a saggy and loose appearance. Previously, the only way to truly tighten skin was through surgical procedures like a facelift, tummy tuck, or thigh lift. But recent technology like Viora Reaction™ Skin Tightening uses radio frequency energy to non-invasively tighten lax skin.

Shedding Light on Photo Rejuvenation

This week, we’re answering your questions about one of our procedures that has helped countless patients achieve brilliant skin: photo rejuvenation.

What skin conditions does photo rejuvenation treat?
Because it enhances the quality of the skin at multiple levels, photo rejuvenation can address a wide variety of skin concerns, including hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, facial redness, and uneven skin texture.

How does photo rejuvenation work?
In a nutshell, photo rejuvenation uses a laser to send pulses of light into the targeted layers of the skin. Unlike some other treatments, photo rejuvenation is non-ablative, which means that it does not remove or perforate the surface skin. Instead, the treatment focuses on creating a smoother complexion and stimulating the body’s production of collagen, a substance that gives the skin firmness, elasticity, and youthfulness.

What can I expect from the treatment?
Photo rejuvenation is a brief and gentle treatment, typically lasting only around 30 minutes and involving very little discomfort—some patients liken the sensation to a light snap from a rubber band. Results begin to be visible after one treatment, although the number of treatments needed for optimal results varies from patient to patient. For instance, hyperpigmentation from sun damage can typically be treated in one or two sessions, while other patients may require four to six sessions. Because the treatment is non-ablative, photo rejuvenation also requires no downtime.

Am I a good candidate for photo rejuvenation?
Ideal candidates for photo rejuvenation are those who are seeking to diminish facial redness or signs of aging, like wrinkles and age spots, in a non-invasive way. This treatment works best on those with a lighter skin tone, although patients should schedule a consultation to discuss how photo rejuvenation can work with their skin to address their concerns. Patients should also be prepared to follow specific instructions for maximizing their results, like avoiding sun exposure and wearing SPF 30 or higher in the days and weeks following the treatment.
