What Should I Know Before My Laser Hair Removal Treatment?
Laser hair removal is one of the things that has gone from a curiosity to one of the most consistently in-demand cosmetic treatments there is in recent years. That’s certainly the case here at Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center. Temporary hair removal methods like shaving, waxing, and plucking simply cannot compete with a proven long-term solution to unwanted hair. The fall season is here, and this is an incredibly popular time for laser hair removal, which is why our aesthetic experts wanted to use this blog post to explain a few things that anyone should know before their laser hair removal treatments.
The Treatment is Safe & Not Painful
Here at Laser Lights, patient safety is always our top priority. Which is why our providers are licensed and only use top-of-the-market FDA-approved laser technology. During treatment, we may use a cooling device or topical cooling gel to help protect the treated skin and alleviate any potential discomfort. Although intense laser energy will be used to damage hair follicles, the treatment is not painful. Most patients say getting laser hair removal can be a little uncomfortable during the procedure, but that this is quick and after the treatment they are fine.
Prepare Skin Before Treatment
The day or two before a laser hair removal treatment, we highly recommend trimming and shaving the areas that are being treated. Doing so will allow the laser to better penetrate the skin and target the hair follicles underneath. Leaving hair on the surface of the treatment area can make it more difficult for the laser to effectively reach the follicle and do its job. And while shaving is a must, do not wax your skin before laser hair removal, as this can remove the hair’s root and make laser hair removal ineffective.
Full Hair Removal Results Will Take Time
If it’s been a couple days since your treatment and you’re not fully satisfied with your laser hair removal results, it’s important to be patient. Some degree of hair removal will be visible immediately after your treatment session, but laser hair removal is a process and multiple treatment sessions will likely be required to achieve the full hair loss many patients desire. Realistically, you can expect between a 10% to 25% reduction in hair in the treated area after the first treatment. Most patients need between 2 to 6 treatments (as well as a touch-up treatment each year or so), but this depends on several factors, including the specific hair growth cycle each patient experiences.
While it seems like there may be a lot to know before you can enjoy laser hair removal, the truth is that our cosmetic experts work hard to make sure our patients can relax and trust that they are in safe hands when they come to visit us.
