What’s In The Numbers? Current Stats on Non-Surgical Treatments!

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) recently released their annual statistical report, and one thing we couldn’t ignore is the surge in non-surgical cosmetic treatments. The demand for plastic surgery has grown considerably over the last few years, and so too has the popularity of non-surgical treatments intended to help people improve their appearance without the need for surgery. Our aesthetic experts wanted to dive into the numbers and discuss a few of the more interesting things found in these statistics.

• Overall, non-surgical treatments saw a 7% increase from the previous year, and accounted for 25,442,640.
• Unsurprisingly, neuromodulator injections like Botox® and Dysport® were the most in-demand cosmetic treatment performed last year. The 9,480,949 reported treatments of these injectables accounted for a 9% increase from the prior year, which was also tied for the biggest year-to-year increase. Needless to say, it doesn’t look like the demand for these injectables is going away any time soon.
• The rest of the top-5 in order was: facial filler injections, skin resurfacing treatments (including lasers), laser skin treatments (hair removal, tattoo removal, and vein treatment), and lip augmentation.
• Across all age groups, minimally invasive treatments are currently outpacing plastic surgeries for the face and body.
• Facial fillers are hugely popular with patients between 40-55, as 35% of all treatments were done on this group.
• Younger patients (those between 20-29) increased their use of facial rejuvenation treatments like chemical peels and microdermabrasion by nearly 6%, reinforcing the trend of younger patients than ever participating in preemptive cosmetic treatments to help deter signs of aging before they occur.

The whole report was very interesting, but these are the bits that most stuck out to us.
