Ask Laser Lights: How Do I Keep My Skin Healthy This Winter?
Here at Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center, we believe that achieving and maintaining healthy, glowing skin requires a year-round commitment. However, certain times of year are more taxing on our skin and require additional care and love. The winter season is one such time. Colder, dryer winter conditions combined with dry, heated indoor air can make even the healthiest complexions dull, dry, and in need of assistance. That’s why our skincare experts were happy to answer some questions about how to keep your skin healthy this winter.
Is it safe to have a chemical peel during the winter or should I wait?
Not only is it safe to have a chemical peel treatment during the winter season, it’s even recommended. Getting a chemical peel now when conditions are cooler and you experience less sun exposure can help your skin recover from the treatment. In order to effectively protect your skin and promote good healing, we recommend using a heavier moisturizer and making sure to wear sunscreen while spending time outdoors. We will provide you with the best recommendations for your skin during your consultation.
If I start laser hair removal now, will I be ready by summer?
Although every person is different, the overwhelming majority of people who undergo laser hair removal treatments will need multiple treatment sessions in order to achieve the best hair removal results. And these treatment sessions must be spaced a few several weeks apart. Starting laser hair removal this winter will help patients be ready for next spring and summer well in advance.
Are there things I can do at home to keep my skin hydrated and healthy during the winter?
Definitely. While undergoing one of our cosmetic treatments can always be of assistance, there are plenty of simple things you can do from the comfort of your own home to improve how your skin looks and feels this winter. Moisture and hydration are critical, so make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day and consider using a humidifier in your home. Another tip that can be very helpful is taking cooler (closer to room temperature) showers during this time of year or at least rinsing with this cooler temperature before finishing your shower. Additionally, putting on your lotion and moisturizer right after the shower helps keep moisture in.
