Defeat Acne with Help from Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center
Did you know that acne is the most common skin condition in the United States? Around 50 million Americans struggle with acne every year, and you can develop this skin condition at any stage of life. While there is no cure, acne can be successfully treated, so you don’t have to deal with this condition forever. But how does acne occur, and what can you do to address it?
Acne occurs when dead skin cells, excess oil, and bacteria become trapped in our pores. Often, hormone changes are responsible for acne eruptions, but diet can also play a role. High-glycemic carbohydrates spike our blood sugar, causing our oil glands to produce excess sebum. All of these things can inflame the skin and put you at risk for acne. Sometimes, simple changes in diet coupled with acne treatments go a long way in healing acne outbreaks. If you are struggling with your acne, Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center has a variety of treatments to help you combat acne and regain your confidence.
Treating Active Acne:
Facials:
Everybody’s skin is different, and treatments that help one person may not work for another. Luckily, our acne facial can help. Our licensed estheticians will assess your skin and tailor your facial experience to address your specific acne outbreak. Our Fire & Ice® facial focuses on rejuvenation with the addition of pore extraction. During your treatment, two unique masques will be applied to your face. The first masque focuses on exfoliation; removing the oils, dead skin, and bacteria keeping the acne alive. The second masque will smooth and rejuvenate your skin, helping you attain a clearer complexion.
SilkPeel™ is similar to microdermabrasion in that it clears away the oil and debris contributing to your Acne. However, unlike microdermabrasion, SilkPeel™uses specialized topical medications. These medications work in conjunction with a diamond-tipped handpiece to exfoliate dead skin cells and excess oils from the affected area while providing relief from acne. This gentle treatment can be used not only to address facial acne but also body acne.
Chemical Peels:
Chemical peels are a great acne management tool. We can utilize these treatments to exfoliate the surface of the skin by treating the skin with a solution that penetrates the top layers of the dermis. This activates the healing process of the skin and reduces acne scarring. Chemical peel strength varies from person to person, and we can customize this treatment for you. So, we can do a light treatment if you want little to no visible peeling. On the other hand, if you prefer visible peeling, we can do a deeper treatment. During your skin assessment, your esthetician will discuss these options and help you select the peel that best suits your acne outbreak.
Minimizing Scarring:
Once you have treated the active acne, you may be left with scarring. Scarring can take on various textures – raised, pitted, pigmented – all of which can be treated. Chemical peels and SilkPeel may be good options to get you started, but we also offer more effective methods such as Microneedling and laser.
Microneedling:
Microneedling has proven to be a great treatment for acne scars. At Laser Lights, our Microneedling treatment involves using Réjuvapen®, a device containing ultrafine, sterile needles. These needles create tiny punctures in the skin, triggering your body’s healing process. This healing process will encourage the development of new collagen and elastin in your skin, smoothing and minimizing the appearance of acne scarring. It is important to note that more than one treatment will be needed for best results.
Laser Treatments:
Another method for treating acne scarring is with fractionated CO2 laser skin resurfacing. Like Microneedling, the laser penetrates the dermis creating microscopic wounds which break down the scar tissue caused by the acne. The body then works to heal these wounds by increasing collagen production and creating “new skin.” As a result, you will be left with a refreshed appearance and a reduction in your acne scars.
