Laser Treatment for Rosacea and Facial Veins
As temperatures drop, those with rosacea and associated facial veins may experience flare-ups. While all of the causes for facial spider veins, also called telangiectasias, and rosacea are unknown, their appearance is often related to heredity, oral contraceptives, hormone therapy or sun exposure. For some, they may simply be a component of the aging process. Fortunately, facial capillaries, veins, and rosacea can all be effectively treated with Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center’s advanced laser systems.
Rosacea is a generally harmless skin condition in which the blood vessels close to the surface of the skin dilate. This causes the appearance of skin flushing, which can cause embarrassment and damage to a person’s self-esteem. Rosacea symptoms can also include small pustules similar to acne, obstinate redness on the cheeks, chin, forehead, nose and other areas surrounding the face. Visible blood vessels in the face, such as spider veins, can also be a symptom of rosacea or a condition of their own.
Rosacea laser treatment utilizes pulsed dye lasers to target the culprit for facial redness: enlarged capillaries. The body absorbs and eliminates these enlarged blood vessels, eradicating the physical irritation associated with the chronic skin condition. Depending on the severity of the vascular issues, new veins will likely develop over time, requiring a touch-up treatment at a later date.
Spider veins, which currently affect nearly half of adult women and over half of adult men in the United States, are treated very similarly. After the laser’s wavelength passes through the skin during spider vein laser treatment, the targeted blood vessel is absorbed, gradually disappearing over time without affecting the skin. The only side effect our patient’s typically see from this procedure is slight redness following the treatment that may last for several days.
During your laser treatment, your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses before laser light energy will be delivered precisely to the area of your skin being treated—in this case, on the face. As laser pulses are absorbed by the unwanted vessels, a warm sensation will be briefly experienced.
