Grad Student Discovers New Treatment for Acne with Acid Found in Coconut Oil
These days, it is rarer to find a person that has not suffered from acne at some point in their life than someone who has. Acne affects more than 85 percent of teens and can still be a problem for a number of adults, so it is not surprising that scientists continue to look for ways to treat the bacteria that cause it.
Recently, a graduate student from UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering discovered a new treatment for acne: using the lauric acid found in coconut oil and human breast milk, he invented a unique delivery system to the skin, using nanotechnology, to target acne causing bacteria. Scientists are hopeful that this specific treatment will help with the most common type of acne, acne vulgaris.
While nanotechnology may be the future of acne treatment, there are a variety of advanced acne treatments available right now that treat the causes and symptoms of acne. At Laser Lights we offer acne light therapy, an FDA approved high intensity light treatment that destroys acne- causing bacteria and treats inflammation. Also available at laser lights are TCA Chemical peels to remove damaged skin, facials by our in-house licensed estheticians, and a variety of facial cleansers and skin care products to keep skin healthy and blemish-free.
