Botox® and Dysport® Wrinkle Treatments

Botox®  and Dysport®  are made with a purified form of botulinum toxin that temporarily relaxes the contracted muscles between and around the eyes that cause wrinkles. Most patients who receive Botox® or Dysport® injections see visible results for up to six months following the procedure. Wrinkle treatments with the injections typically take 10-15 minutes per injection area to be treated.

Wrinkle Reduction and Volume Treatments with Restylane®, Juvéderm®, Radiesse® and Perlane®

Like Botox® and Dysport®, Restylane®, Juvéderm®, Radiesse®, and Perlane® are all FDA approved for wrinkle reduction and increasing facial volume.  However, unlike botulinum based products; Restylane®, Juvéderm®, and Perlane® are composed of different molecular versions of hyaluronic acid.  This naturally occurring substance is abundant in youthful skin, but diminishes with age.  These hyaluronic products, also known as facial fillers, are safe and effective in removing wrinkles of the face and adding lost volume to thinned areas of the cheeks or lips.  The smooth, large molecule composition of Juvederm® makes it the filler of choice to treat severe facial wrinkles and depressed areas. The effects of most facial fillers are visible for 6-12 months, but results are largely dependent upon the region of the face being treated.

Radiesse®, unlike the other injectables mentioned above, is comprised of calcium hydroxyapatite to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Radiesse® provides long-lasting (up to 1 year) effects because the main ingredient stimulates the body’s own natural collagen production. Aside from filling in frown lines and naso-labial folds, Radiesse® can also add volume to lips and cheeks.

I’ve heard the results of dermal injectables are temporary, how long do Botox® results usually last?

Muscle relaxing dermal injectables and facial fillers are made with different substances; therefore, each product’s results will last a different amount of time. On average, the results of wrinkle relaxing injectables, like Botox® and Dysport®, made of purified botulinum last 3-4 months. The results of dermal fillers made of hylauronic acid like Restylane®, Perlane®, and Juvéderm® last up to six months.
What is facial rejuvenation?

Facial rejuvenation is the term used to describe any cosmetic skin procedure designed to make the face appear more youthful.  Common facial rejuvenation procedures include: wrinkle treatments with dermal injections, facial filler injections, chemical peels, and laser skin resurfacing.

How long do Dysport® injections take?

The treatment time for wrinkle-reducing Dysport® injections varies depending on the number of areas being treated. Most injection procedures take 10-15 minutes per area to eliminate facial wrinkles.

Can anything be done to erase the deep lines around my mouth?

Perioral wrinkles and marionette (smile lines) around the mouth can be treated with injections of facial filler like Juvederm® and Restylane® or laser skin resurfacing treatments. Products like Radiesse® can also be injected to enhance lips and make them appear fuller.

How do I determine which injectable is right for me?

There are several options to explore when it comes to dermal filling. During a consultation at Laser Lights, we will take the time to discuss all of your options and explain the differences in each product. After we listen to your specific concerns, we will help you determine a wrinkle treatment plan that will help you achieve your desired facial enhancement results.

How much recovery time is needed after Restylane®, Perlane®, or Juvederm® facial filler treatment?

Minimal recovery time is required after a facial filling treatment. Patients can usually return to normal activities right after treatment, but we do recommend that they avoid strenuous exercise or activity and over-exposure to the heat or sun to minimize the risk of any side effects.
