Just a Feel Good Treatment? Face the Facial

Laser Lights offers an assortment of facial treatments to improve overall condition of facial skin. Our menu of services for the face includes chemical peels, facials, microdermabrasion, facial rejuvenation, acne light therapy, and even laser treatments for the face. However, we have heard a rumor circulating that facials are just a “feel good” treatment. Offering an assortment of facials for patients of all ages, we thought we should explain some of the different elements that make our facials much more than just a good wash.

Facials at Laser Lights are therapeutic and medicated to treat a variety of skin conditions from acne and rosacea to wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. In fact, we can even customize our facials to treat your specific skin conditions. Before each treatment our esthetician analyzes your skin to determine the best treatment regimen, which isn’t always a facial. However, these “feel good” treatments are much stronger than most people think.

Our younger patients who still suffer acne breakouts can benefit from our acne facial that loosens and removes pore debris and blockages. We can’t lie, Atlanta facial treatments do feel good, starting with an esthetician who gently cleans the face then sprays the treatment area with a warm mist. Once the medicated ointment is applied and removed, the treatment concludes with a clarifying mask, light moisturizer, and protective mineral sunscreen. With a clearer complexion in the weeks following, you will know that there is more to a facial than just relaxation. Patients who are interested in our acne facial may also be interested in the teen facial (which also teaches teens to properly care for their skin) and our back facial (which takes care of acne breakouts on the back often referred to as “backne”).

Laser Lights also offers facials to reduce early signs of aging. Patients starting to notice fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, nose, and eyes can benefit from our anti-aging facial that uses a combination of alpha and beta hydroxyl (salicylic) acids to induce skin cell rejuvenation. Because of the chemicals used, the anti-aging facial can cause facial skin to appear flushed, so those with sensitive skin might prefer our European facial. This gentle treatment removes dead skin and surface debris and includes the application of a papaya mask to reduce redness and irritation. We also offer a facial specifically designed for men. This all-in-one men’s facial relieves tension and redness, and our estheticians instruct patients on sun damage protection and daily skin care.

Pore extractions are often combined with facials, but other treatments may be recommended as well. For instance, we often suggest that patients suffering acne alternate facial treatments and acne light therapy to get the most out of treatment. Patients who receive facials are often interested in skin care products so that they can keep their skin healthy at home.

What are my laser skin treatment options?

A look at our menu of laser services shows the variety of laser treatments we offer Duluth and Atlanta Laser Lights’ patients. However, since a list like this can seem overwhelming, we thought we’d break it down for you. By grouping laser treatments into three categories—spot treatments, anti-aging treatments, and removal treatments—we can guide you in finding the best cosmetic laser treatment to meet your skin’s needs.

laser treatmentsLaser Spot Treatments

Spot treatments are those laser treatments that help remove skin imperfections, whether they are age spots, freckles, warts, birthmarks, or even scars. Our lasers target the darker pigments within the skin, causing the spots to break up and be absorbed by the body. At Laser Lights, we use different lasers depending on the type and size of the issue we’re treating. The number of treatment sessions necessary for permanent, complete removal also depends on the spot’s size and type. Smaller spots like freckles, age spots, hemangiomas, and warts can usually be removed in one treatment. Larger and/or darker spots like birthmarks and port wine stains usually take up to three treatments spaced a few weeks apart for permanent removal. Although you should avoid sun exposure after any laser treatment to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation, there is no downtime associated with laser spot treatments.

Anti-Aging Laser Treatments

Wrinkles, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, melasma, and rosacea can contribute to an aged appearance, but the providers at Laser Lights offer treatments to restore youthful looking skin. From our micro laser peel that combines the power of microdermabrasion, chemical peel, and laser technology for rejuvenation with minimal downtime to deeper treatments like CO2 Fractional Laser, we offer treatments for patients with a variety of facial rejuvenation needs. Most of our anti-aging laser treatments will produce the desired results in just one to three treatments, but it’s important to schedule a consultation to help determine which laser treatment (CO2 Fraxel, Erbium, Photofacial, etc.) will best meet your specific needs.

Laser Removal Treatments

laser lightsOur laser removal treatment category consists of those treatments that remove unwanted hair, spider veins, or even tattoos. Patients looking to rid themselves of hair on the legs, face, bikini area, arms, underarms, and chest can benefit from laser hair removal. Although semi-permanent results will be present after one treatment, we recommend up to six treatments spaced four to six weeks apart due to the recurring nature of the hair growth cycle. Skin color, hair color, and hair texture can affect the amount of treatments required. Unsightly spider veins are often found on the face and legs. Our lasers target these veins, causing them to gradually disappear and be absorbed and dispelled by the body. Most patients see a reduction in the appearance of spider veins in just one to three treatments. Laser tattoo removal almost always requires multiple treatments, and the number of treatment sessions necessary is determined by the size, type, age, color, and depth of the tattoo.

It’s important to understand that whether or not the particular laser treatment you receive requires downtime, it is vital to avoid the sun for a few weeks prior to and following your treatments to minimize hyperpigmentation. For this reason, we recommend reserving laser procedures for the colder months, meaning now is the perfect time! If you do have to go out in the sun after a laser treatment, be sure to wear SPF 30 sunscreen as well as protective clothing. If you still aren’t sure which laser treatment will meet your needs, schedule a pre-skin treatment consultation today. Chemical Peels Can Help Skin Glow All Winter Long

As the warm weather turns cool, our skin conditions change. You may begin to notice that your “healthy” summer glow is fading to reveal patches of irregular pigmentation. Aside from that, your skin is probably turning dry in the colder weather, but don’t let the weather get you down. Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center offers plenty of solutions for treating various skin conditions all year long.  If you keep up with our blog, you already know that procedures like laser hair removal, laser tattoo removal, and even laser skin resurfacing are great for these colder months, but we’d like to highlight some of our non-laser treatments that will keep your skin looking great this winter.

Chemical peels are perfect for reducing mild imperfections (like sun damage and melasma), minimizing wrinkles, and restoring collagen production. Our licensed estheticians will perform a pre-skin treatment consultation prior to your peel to help determine which of our chemical peels will produce the results you’re after and complement your skin type. Once we’ve determined the type of chemical peel to perform, one of our experienced, licensed estheticians will apply a chemical solution to the outer layer of skin, which will cause the damaged outer layer of skin to be slowly eliminated over the following days (up to a week of peeling). Downtime is minimal, but we do suggest you use SPF 30 sunscreen prior to being in the sun after having a chemical peel to avoid sun damage and hyperpigmentation to newly rejuvenated skin.

We offer a variety of chemical peels that treat various skin types. People who suffer from acne, mild hyperpigmentation, rough skin and a busy lifestyle might choose our Fruit Acid Peel since it requires no downtime, while those looking to correct fine lines, melasma, or acne scarring may choose the Glycolic or Jessner’s Peel. Other types of chemical peels you’ll find on our menu are our Mandelic Peel, Salicylic Peel, and TCA Peel (Trichloroacetic Acid Peel), but we’d like to specially introduce the newest chemical peel we offer: Vi Peel.

Not only does the Vi Peel minimize sun damage, clear most acne, reduce acne scars and pigmentation problems, and smooth fine lines and wrinkles, but it actually stimulates collagen and elastin production to promote tighter, more youthful skin. With minimal downtime, you can expect the outer layer of skin to peel for up to a week to reveal refreshed, younger-looking skin. If you purchase a Vi Peel from Laser Lights before November 30th, 2011, you will receive one Vi Peel for free, so schedule your treatment today.

Laser Lights offers plenty of other treatments to care for your skin and keep you looking your best like our new Viora Reaction™ skin tightening (face & body), microdermabrasion, hand rejuvenation, and more. Be sure to take a look at our website to learn more about the services we offer. Also connect with us on Facebook and Twitter for updates on skincare news and specials.

The Use of Fractionated CO2 Laser as an Effective Alternative to Eyelid Surgery

Once reserved for eliminating wrinkles and scarring on the thicker skin of the forehead and cheeks, the Fractional CO2 Laser is now being used to effectively treat dark circles and sagging skin around the eyes.

As discussed in a previous post on Laser Light’s blog series, the Erbium Fractionated CO2 Laser has been proven successful in reducing the appearance of medium-depth wrinkles and superficial scars on the tissue of the face, chest, and hands.  Until now, sagging skin around the eyes and under the brows was typically remedied by a surgical blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) procedure.  The Erbium Fractional CO2 Laser works without surgery to rejuvenate the eye area by penetrating the first layers of the dermis with pulsed columns of light.  The columns create tiny wounds that the body then “heals” by generating collagen and elastin that re-plump the treated area and result in a more youthful, lifted appearance.  In addition, the Erbium Fractionated C02 Laser also reduces the appearance of dark circles underneath the eye.

Often used in conjunction with Laser Resurfacing treatments like Erbium Fractionated CO2 Laser Treatments, Co-Medical Director of Laser Lights Dr. David Whiteman also offers the cosmetic injectables Juvederm® and Restylane® to restore youthful volume and decrease facial wrinkles.  If you would like to learn more about Laser Lights other lasers and treatments call (770) 495-9322.

Laser Hair Removal Patients- Avoid the Sun!

As summer’s super-heated whether and sunny afternoons tempt us to wear less clothing and stay outside, hair-removal patients should be weary.  Exposing skin to sunlight that has been treated with a laser to remove unwanted body hair can result in skin discoloration and compromised hair-removal results.

Not only do the ultraviolet rays of the sun speed the aging process of your skin, but they can also darken the skin which in turn hinders the hair-removing lasers ability to target the melanin in the hair shafts during removal.  Darker skin, whether naturally so or sun-tanned, is also more prone to hyper pigmentation (burning) as a result of laser hair removal.

Completely avoiding sun exposure is often unrealistic as many of us get sun without even knowing it (i.e.- sitting in the car, sitting next to a window at work, etc.)  Therefore, preventative daily application of sunscreen is key.  The professionals at Laser Lights typically recommend a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.  This enables you to be exposed to sunlight, protected from burning, 30 times longer than you would be able to with unprotected skin.  Everyone’s skin is different, but laser and skin experts agree, it’s much better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your laser hair removal results.

If you are interested in laser hair removal procedures or wish to reverse the appearance of wrinkles caused by the sun, contact Laser Lights by calling (770) 495-9322 or visiting their website.

Part 1 of Our Laser Types Series: Differences in Original CO2 and Fractionated Co2 Laser Treatments Explained

No matter who you are, or where you live, your skin takes a beating.  Eventually, the combined effects from sun-exposure, medications, dehydration, and other lifestyle and genetic factors can negatively affect the appearance of your skin.  Luckily, Laser Lights offers beauty inducing laser treatments using Fraxel lasers to keep the face, neck, chest, and hands of men and women looking and feeling their best.

Lasers have come a long way since the introduction of the original CO2 laser in the mid 1960’s.  While the original CO2 laser did introduce the world to the possibility of laser skin resurfacing, it also brought an unsightly “line of demarcation” between the treated and untreated skin on its’ first patients.  The relatively recent development of Fractionated (Fraxel)  CO2 laser technology blurred that line by  using several microscopic laser columns to penetrate the secondary layer of skin (dermis) creating tiny wounds that the body heals by increasing production of collagen and elastin and generating “new skin”.   Instead of treating the entire face, fractionated lasers have the advantageous ability to target very specific areas.   The tiny amount of skin exposed to the laser at a time makes the laser useful for a variety of skin conditions including:  wrinkling, melasma (spots of skin darkening), and acne scarring.

While an effective laser treatment plan can only be developed once your level of damage and skin have been assessed, Laser Lights can also use a combination of Fractionated type lasers on your skin for areas of differing appearance.  To schedule a consultation or ask any questions about our Laser resurfacing treatments, please call (770)495-9322 or visit our website.
