Beware of Deal Sites Offering Laser Hair Removal

You probably receive at least one email everyday with special offers and skin care treatment savings in your area.  Although these deals can be enticing, it’s important to know a few key points about cosmetic treatments before buying any deeply discounted treatment.   At Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center, we offer competitive pricing while maintaining the highest level of patient care and safety.  We use tools like our website and blog to keep patients informed of treatment options and to educate them on what to look for when selecting a procedure besides the cost of laser hair removal. laser hair removal atlanta georgia

Many times, places offering laser hair removal packages for extremely discounted rates do not have medical-grade equipment or professionally trained laser technicians.  It’s not uncommon for patients to come to Laser Lights for additional treatments after using a deal at another location because they are unsatisfied with their results.  By receiving services from an unlicensed laser technician, individuals also assume an increased risk of burns or scarring from misuse of lasers.

At Laser Lights, we only offer FDA approved laser equipment that is safe for your unique skin type.  As a member of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS), our certified laser technicians are dedicated to providing patients with optimal care to meet their skincare needs. Our laser hair removal services can permanently reduce hair growth almost anywhere on the body.  The most common areas treated include laser hair removal on the legs, underarms, face, and bikini line.  Receiving treatment from an experienced laser technician also helps ensure that you will need fewer secondary sessions as the laser is set specifically for your unique skin and hair type.

Because hair grows in cycles, it is necessary for multiple treatments to achieve permanent results. We also offer touch-up sessions for only $60. If you are interested in laser hair removal services, please call our office today.  Be sure to view our specials page for laser hair removal packages and other cosmetic savings. At Laser Lights, we want to you to look your best for whatever your spring break plans might entail.  Now is a great time to take advantage of several cosmetic and laser procedures. Treatments such as laser hair removal, spider vein elimination, Viora skin firming, and laser skin resurfacing usually require multiple sessions to acquire optimal results. Starting treatments now can have your skin feeling and looking great in time to pull out the shorts and swimsuits.

Laser hair removal is a popular treatment for both men and women wanting to eliminate unwanted body and facial hair.  Since the hair removal process is only effective during the early growing cycle, patients usually need up to 6 visits for full, permanent hair removal.  Our FDA-approved medical grade lasers can safely treat almost any area of the body; popular areas for hair removal include the legs, underarms, arms, face, chest and bikini.

You shouldn’t feel self-conscious this spring because of unsightly facial or leg veins. Our laser treatment delivers laser energy to the vein so that the body naturally absorbs the unsightly vessels. This safe procedure requires between one to three sessions and patients benefit from no downtime.

If you are looking to show-off a healthier looking face with a youthful glow, you may be interested in CO2 laser resurfacing. This fractionated laser can address signs of aging including sun spots and wrinkles as well as smooth out acne scars e and hyperpigmentation. Since this procedure eliminates old, damaged skin to reveal new, healthy skin, patients can expect to feel effects similar to sunburn (depending on the depth of treatment required). Since it’s important to avoid direct sunlight for several days after treatment, winter is a great time for laser resurfacing as you spend more time indoors.

If you are looking to reduce cellulite and tighten loose skin, let Viora Reaction™ non-invasive technology address those concerns. This advanced technology uses radio frequency to reduce cellulite and promote collagen production.  Most patients begin to notice results after one treatment, but typically receive multiple treatments for optimal results.

What’s the Difference Between Laser Hair Removal for the Face and Body?

atlanta laser hair removalBoth men and women develop body and facial hair, although facial hair for women tends to be more fine and lighter in color. At Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center, our licensed professionals understand that hair removal is unique depending on each patient’s skin as well as the area of desired hair removal on the face or body.

Vellus hair is the short, fine, and unpigmented hair found on most of the body. However, the density of hair or the amount of hair per area of skin varies for each individual.  This is the type of hair that women tend to have on their face while male facial hair will grow darker and thicker. Since the face tends to be more sensitive and delicate than other areas of the body, the lasers’ settings are adjusted to appropriately target hair follicles without harming the surrounding skin.

Our FDA-approved, medical grade laser equipment is safe for hair removal on both the face and body including popular areas such as the bikini, legs, underarms, arms, face, and chest. Our certified laser hair removal technicians discusswith each patient their desired results and expectations. During consultation, they will be able to determine the number of treatments needed based on each patient’s skin color, hair color, and hair texture.

Laser Hair Removal and Men’s Facial Hair

Laser Hair RemovalWhen people think about laser hair removal, smooth legs and underarms often come to mind; however, women are not the only ones who can benefit from laser hair removal. Men who seem to consistently have a 5’oclock shadow shortly after shaving can benefit from this permanent hair removal solution. Not only can facial hair removal take care of an entire beard and moustache, but it’s also great for men looking to permanently rid themselves of ear, chest, leg and back hair.

Laser hair removal procedures can save the time you’ve previously dedicated to daily shaving while providing permanent results. At Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center, our experienced laser technicians use medical grade lasers that are safe for a variety of skin and hair types.  These FDA approved lasers are safe for use on the face and work best with dark hair. Facial hair usually responds very well to lasers as it’s usually darker, however, our lasers are suitable for a variety of hair colors, density and skin tones. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons more than 185,000 laser hair removal procedures were performed in 2011.

Although many men seek facial hair removal, other popular areas include the back and arms.  Laser hair removal is useful for any area of unwanted hair.  Other laser services men are pursing include spider vein elimination, laser skin resurfacing, scar reduction and tattoo removal.  During an initial consultation our staff will discuss your cosmetic goals and the best option for your hair removal needs.

Thinking about Laser Hair Removal, Tattoo Removal or Wrinkle Treatment? What to Look for in a Reputable Laser Treatment Center

laser lights

Because laser cosmetic treatment is so new, many patients are unaware that standards exist to regulate which practitioners and physicians can use the equipment and how it should be used. While the use of lasers for cosmetic and medical treatments seems like space-age technology, these criteria and rules help keep patients and physicians safe. More specifically, organizations like the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) and the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) regulate and determine the appropriate safety criteria for the medical and cosmetic use of lasers.

When looking for a reputable laser treatment center, it is important that the facility follow high standards of practice to ensure patient safety. The ASLMS lists training and education, patient and procedure selection, and patient safety as the three main determining factors in high standards of laser treatment practice. Continue reading

Everything You Need to Know about Laser Hair Removal

laser lights cosmetic laser centerPatients are very inquisitive when it comes to laser procedures. We are constantly asked questions about laser hair removal here at Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center. While we do get some very unique questions, the most common ones we’re asked are regarding cost, side effects, complications, and the laser technology we use. Therefore, we would like to take the time to address these questions.

Laser hair removal cost can be tricky for patients to understand. Most laser centers offer pricing per area per treatment, as well as package pricing per area. For instance, it takes more time to permanently remove unwanted hair from large areas like the legs than it does to remove unwanted hair from the underarms, so pricing will vary because of the time involved. Laser hair removal, as well as other laser procedures like laser tattoo removal, requires more than one treatment session for permanent hair removal. Hair grows in cycles, and while some hairs are in the growing phase, others are in the resting phase. The laser has to catch each hair in the growing phase for removal, requiring at least 2-3 sessions, but most patients receive 4-6 sessions for optimal results, which is why package pricing is offered. Although laser hair removal can get pretty expensive, laser clinics often offer specials. For instance, right now (through 9/30/2011) you can get 15% off any laser hair removal package at Laser Lights.

Although side effects and complications are not fun topics to discuss, it’s very important for a patient to be aware of possible complications before laser hair removal. Continue reading

You Asked, We Answered: Laser Hair Removal for Men

laser hair removalHow is laser hair removal for men different from that of women?

The same laser technology is used in male laser hair removal that is used in female laser hair removal; however, the areas that are typically treated differ. Laser Hair Removal Most Efficient Answer for Unwanted Facial Hair

Men and women both struggle with unwanted hair. Excess hair can be embarrassing and frustrating, especially facial hair on women. Women can pluck, shave, wax, thread, and use all of the over-the-counter creams they can find, but after a while, it still grows back.  Removing hair is tricky because of the body’s natural cycle to re-grow hair.  However, after a few laser hair removal treatments, the unwanted hair can be gone-for good.

Laser hair removal is safe and effective.  The lasers send out light wavelengths, which are absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft.  The laser’s power is concentrated in the hair shaft, so it will destroy the hair, but it will not hurt the surrounding skin.  Laser hair removal requires multiple treatments since hair grows in cycles.  The length and number of treatments necessary depends on the area being treated, type of skin, and density of hair.  Laser hair removal is even safe enough to get rid of unwanted facial hair.

If you have facial hairs starting to pop up, be prepared because it does tend to worsen with age.  Post menopausal women are more likely to grow unwanted facial hair because menopause changes hormones, and imbalanced or changing hormones tend to produce hair growth.  It is better to get facial laser hair removal at an earlier age because the lasers will not pick up lighter hair pigments; meaning grey and white hair is extremely difficult to safely remove.

If you can relate to this blog and have unwanted hair on your face, or anywhere else on your body, call Laser Lights and schedule a consultation.  While pricing varies nationally from center to center, Laser Lights has laser hair removal packages starting at $55.  For more information on laser hair removal and other laser treatments, visit our website and continue to read our blog for more updates!

Can I Have Laser Hair Removal Over An Area With A Tattoo?

Laser hair removal is a growing trend, but what happens when a laser touches a tattoo? Tattoos, like body hair, are also removed by lasers, so having laser hair removal over a tattoo naturally seems like a bad combination. It is important to note that these treatments utilize two different lasers. Laser hair removal actually requires a stronger laser than tattoo removal, so if the hair removal laser touches the tattoo, it may not only remove or disfigure the tattoo, but can also severely burn the skin.

Lasers are attracted to pigment; therefore, tattoo ink, which is darker than skin, will easily absorb the laser’s beams. Many laser centers will not allow hair removal within a certain distance of a tattoo to protect you and your tattoo. The internet is filled with horror stories of under-educated technicians who went over tattoos resulting in burning, fading, blackening, and distorted tattoos.

Hair removal patients should not be alarmed; laser hair removal is a safe, effective procedure when performed by a properly trained professional.  You should also remain honest with your doctor/ hair removal specialist and inform them of any existing tattoos ahead of time. Also, face the facts. If you have a large tattoo in an area where you want laser hair removal, you may not be a good candidate.  However, if you have a small tattoo on your ankle and want the hair removed on your leg, you should consider having the hair removed around it and shaving over the tattoo. Even if only performed in a specific region, laser hair removal will still cut down your shaving time.

Please contact Laser Lights at 770-495-9322 or email info@atlaserlights.com with any questions or concerns about this subject. If you are not sure if you are a good candidate for hair removal, feel free to schedule a consultation. Also, keep reading our blog to learn more about laser therapy.

Laser Hair Removal Myths Debunked

Laser hair removal is one of the most media-circulated terms in the country today. Billboards, commercials, and websites now advertise and discuss laser hair removal like never before. With such high amounts of media chatter about this type of procedure, it’s important to approach the topic objectively.  At Laser Lights, our licensed professionals are committed to providing you with factual and educational information about laser hair removal procedures. Below, Laser Director Patti Daniel responds to some of the most widely circulated laser “myths.”

Q: “Laser hair removal doesn’t work on certain skin and hair colors.”

A: “Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in the hair and impeding the ability for the underlying hair follicle to grow hair.  Thus, lasers cannot easily target the follicles of fair-haired individuals.  Fortunately there are other methods, such as electrology that can effectively eliminate body hair.  It is also true that some skin tones (usually darker) are more apt to discoloration by laser treatment, that is why Laser Lights offers an array of laser types to ensure that any risks are minimized.”

Q: “Laser hair removal is extremely painful.”

A: “Though everyone has a different pain threshold, most patients equate any discomfort from laser hair removal to the feeling of being snapped by a rubberband.  Because laser hair removal offers a permanent solution to the repeated discomfort of tweezing or waxing, any temporary discomfort is inconsequential to most patients.

Q: “Laser hair removal is way too expensive.”

A: Compared to the compounded costs of a lifetime of razor, cream, and waxing, laser hair removal is actually quite economical. Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center also offers regular specials and packaged deals to make their experienced professionals’ services more accessible.

Q: “Laser hair removal is dangerous.”

A: As with any medical procedure, laser hair removal does inherently carry risks.  This fact further necessitates the importance of entrusting a licensed professional to perform any laser procedure. The Laser Light’s personnel are fully trained and licensed to operate our lasers and perform laser procedures.

As the popularity of laser hair removal continues to grow, so does the technology and amount of available procedures.  For answers to other frequently asked question about cosmetic laser procedures click here.  You can also stay in the loop with the latest Laser Lights news by subscribing to our blog, visiting our website, and liking us on Facebook.

Body Hair Removal: We Discuss the Shift in Male Aesthetics

According to a recent article on Men’s body hair removal in The New York Times, a whopping 61% of American males between the ages of 18 and 29 report practicing some form of body hair removal.  It’s no surprise then that the body shaver industry grosses over $10 million dollars annually.  The professional Laser Hair Removal Specialists at Laser Lights have also noted the trend: scheduling an increased number of appointments for male patients.

The razor manufacturing company Philips Norelco released research that reports the most frequent areas for male body hair removal are the groin, armpits, and finally the chest and back.  Besides specialized razors, men have begun to utilize depilatory creams, waxing, and most effectively, laser hair removal for their revitalized grooming regimens.   Depending on the amount and type of hair to be removed, a series of six visits can rid you (or someone you know) of unwanted body hair.

Laser Lights of Atlanta has over 12 different medical grade lasers to aid in a range of skin issues: ranging from unwanted hair removal to wrinkles.  A professional consultation with a certified laser professional is necessary before a plan of care can be compiled.  If you are interested in learning more about the laser services Laser Lights of Atlanta performs or wish to schedule a consultation, visit our website.
